Middle Tennessee Aikido brings the personal growth based philosophy of Aikido to
real world applicable martial arts training, boxing classes, and personal fitness
workouts. Aikido has been described as a peaceful martial art using an opponents
energy against them. This, however, is not the true meaning. At  Middle Tennessee
Aikido, we see aikido as a study of principles: the principles of martial arts, the
principle of mind/ body/ spirit unification, and the principle of
budo or the concept of
a warrior's responsibility to protect society and all life. By applying these principles
to other styles, such as boxing, MMA, fitness, and even meditation, they become
easier to recognize and utilize in all aspects of life.

Training is to challenge yourself and develop confidence by facing your fears.
Discovering physical limitations causes reflection on the meanings of harmony and
conflict and find a level of consciousness above the selfish ego. It is not the study of
the art of fighting or narrow technique, but a way of personal refinement and
protecting the quality of life. Its sincere practice brings us back into harmony with our
environment, with other people, and with ourselves.

In providing private lessons, the classes are geared to each student's needs.
Additionally, one on one lessons give the student the choice of  workout for a
particular session, such as boxing, self defense, ground work, strength training,
weight loss, and meditation. Availability of gloves, wraps, bags, pads, body armor,
balance trainers, practice weapons, and resistance bands enables the student to safely
train under qualified supervision. Middle Tennessee Aikido is the only studio to offer
this style of training in Nashville and surrounding areas. Headed by
John Locatelli
Sensei, Mid-Tenn Aikido provides traditional martial arts training and modern
fitness classes while improving confidence, focus, and awareness.
